Problem

After an initial analysis, I've noticed a substantial gap in general implementation of sustainable practices in their everyday work environments. Most corporate training programs focus heavily on compliance and profitability, with sustainability often relegated to a niche status. This oversight can lead to operational inefficiencies, increased environmental impact, and missed opportunities for cost savings and innovation.

Solution

To bridge this gap, I developed an interactive, scenario-based eLearning module that immerses employees in real-life sustainability challenges. This module allows them to make decisions and see the outcomes of those decisions, providing a practical and impactful learning experience. This solution offers a hands-on approach that is both engaging and educational, transform sustainability concepts into actionable workplace behaviors.

Design The Solution

Text-based Storyboard

I designed each stage of our sustainability-themed e-learning module to address key sustainability issues in the workplace, such as optimizing energy use, improving waste management, and choosing eco-friendly office supplies. Each scenario is carefully constructed to engage employees in problem-solving activities that require them to apply sustainability principles. This interactive approach allows learners to see the direct consequences of their decisions on the company’s environmental footprint.

Mood Board

The mood board utilizes a bright palette of greens and earth tones, reflecting the theme of sustainability. It includes images of green office spaces, recycling bins, and energy-efficient workplaces, setting a visual tone that is both hopeful and inspiring.

I developed a style guide that emphasized a minimalist aesthetic and a visual consistency utilizing realistic illustrations of the people and settings.

Style Guide

The style guide emphasizes a clean, accessible design with large, simple icons that communicate sustainability themes effectively. These icons are vibrant, making use of a green, brown, and blue palette to denote various sustainability topics, ensuring that users can easily navigate through the module and understand its content at a glance.

Interactive prototype

Prototypes were iteratively tested to refine user interactions. These prototypes helped in adjusting the user interface and interactions to ensure they are intuitive and engaging, focusing particularly on the usability of interactive elements like drag and drop activities and scenario-based simulations.

Full Development

The full development process for the "Sustainability Practices in the Workplace" scenario-based module involved a structured approach from initial concept to final implementation. The final module was built using Articulate Storyline, incorporating interactive elements and assessments that effectively engage users and encourage the practical application of sustainability practices in the workplace.
